Karen Hahn started the firm in 1983. Her goal has always been to be a different kind of public accounting firm.
We offer all of the services and expertise that one would expect of an accounting firm. But we also offer something extra to our clients. We ask what your needs are instead of offering you what we think you need.
Our goal is to create, communicate, and deliver value to our clients. We do that by easing the burden and responsiblity of preparing an accurate tax return. We do that by helping you to manage your tax bill so there are no surprises. We do that by helping you to maintain an accurate set of accounting records We do that by encouraging you to use your accounting data to manage your business. We do that by showing you how to build value in your business. We do that by encouraging you to "work on your business not in your business."
We provide unique perspectives for long term wealth building such as "FInancial Power House for Couples".
We do this with integrity and ethical behavior.

Our Team
Karen A. Hahn, CPA, CVA - Owner
Karen Hahn started the firm in 1983. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Toledo. She received her Certified Public Accountant license in 1980.
Karen specializes in the accounting, tax, and management issues facing small business.
Karen also specializes in the tax and accounting needs of homeowner associations. She has over twenty-eight years of experience in this industry.
In 2004, Karen became a Certified Valuation Analyst. Her special interest in the field of valuation is helping small business owners plan an "exit strategy".
Karen has written a unique management consultation workbook called Business Performance Series which helps small business owners to "work on their business, not in their business"and as result increase the value of their business. Karen has also co-authored a workbook for couples called Build Your Financial Powerhouse. The workbook is used in a two day workshop designed for couples to help them gain control of their finances.
She is a member of:

Karen is married and has three daughters. She enjoys running, gardening, and plays piano in a band with her husband. Karen is active in her church and likes to volunteer in community activities.

Marcia A. Plumb - Office Manager
Marcia has been with the firm since its inception. She is the first friendly face you will see when you visit us. Marcia is our "hub" and keeps the financial engagements and tax returns flowing through the office and out to you.
Marcia has a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Towson University in Maryland.
Marcia is married with three children and three granddaughters. She enjoys photography, a good piece of chocolate, music, and is very active in her church. She especially enjoys a good, competitive game of Scrabble, or Speed Solitaire with her youngest daughter, Amie.

Lee J. Assaf - Business Administration and Tax Audit
Lee joined the firm in 2005. Lee brings a unique mixture of experience to the firm. She graduated from San Jose State School of Business with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.
She worked for Hitachi for fifteen years in the inventory department and also worked extensively in systems implementation.
Lee worked for the Internal Revenue Service where she gained audit experience.She brings valuable knowledge and success in representing the firm's clients in tax audits.
Lee has worked in a family business where she was the CFO. She knows first hand the daily demands of running a small business.
Lee has three children and enjoys sewing and reading.

JR Orlando - HOA Administration

JR is in charge of homeowner administration. She prepares tax returns and provides bookkeeping services for the firm.
JR has an Associates Degree in Theatre Arts from San Jose City College and a Technical Writing Certificate from University of California Santa Cruz.
JR performs stand-up comedy and acts in local live theatre.
She is active in her church and volunteers as a Grant Writer for her husband's teaching theatre, the Northside Theatre Company.

Shannon works part time helping with database maintenance, tax return processing and program editing. She is a student at San Jose State University and looks forward to getting a degree in education, emphasizing teaching deaf children. In her free time she enjoys going for drives to San Francisco with friends.

Parisa Samiya - Staff Accountant

Parisa joined the firm in 2010 as a staff accountant. She is in her final year of San Jose State’s bachelor’s degree program in business administration, accounting concentration. Parisa worked for many years in the accounting department of Holiday Inn, San Jose, as the accounts payable representative. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains, cross-country skiing, and traveling. She is fluent in English, Farsi and Dari, and is currently learning Spanish.

Kathy Jost - Tax Return Administrator

Kathy Jost is the new Tax Return Administrator for 2010, in charge of tax return file flow and input. Her interests, apart from taxes, include making blankets for children’s hospitals, reading and playing in the garden at their mountain home. She is married to Gary and has 2 grown children and four beautiful grandchildren. She has travelled to Nepal, China, Tibet, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as the Midwest and Wisconsin to visit family.

Joyce Clark - Marketing Manager

Joyce Clark is the firm's marketing manager. Joyce is responsible for setting up workshops, seminars and speaking engagements.
She has an AA degree in business accounting.She was a bank manager and vice president in her banking career which spanned 31 years
She enjoys playing golf, watching movies, and having dinners at ambiance-filled restaurants. She has 3 children and 9 grandchildren and boasts having “smuggled” medical supplies into Bosnia-Herzegovina.
